Computers     The Help Kenya Project collects computers and related computer products, and then repairs and ships them to Kenyan schools. Below is a list of what computer products we collect and ship. Please make a donation or contact us with any questions.

Windows 98 era or better PCs
     Mac laptops
     Monitors (CRT and Flat Screen)
     Printers and Scanners
     Speakers and Microphones
     Mice and Keyboards
     Network equipment
     Power and other cables
     Hard Disks and Media Drives
     Educational Software

We prefer PCs of the Windows 98 era or later, because computers manufactured in the mid 1990s or earlier rarely support the educational software we install on computers before shipment. Every computer we receive has its hard drive (permanent memory) erased and reformatted, and a new operating system installed on it. Therefore, we guarantee that all the data on your computers' hard drive(s) will be erased before shipment. Currently we are accepting only Mac laptop computers, not Mac desktop computers. If you would like to donate multiple Mac desktops, let us know, and we may be able to accommodate.

Printers and scanners are a very important part of the workstations we send to Kenyan schools. If you would like to donate a printer or scanner, please include the drivers and all cables for the device. In the case of printers, also please include any extra printer cartridges, because they are difficult to replace in Kenya. The educational software we collect includes learn to type programs, basic math, reading, and critical thinking programs, and encyclopedia programs. We are in short supply of such programs, and are always looking for more. It is best if these programs can run without a CD, so that they can be installed on multiple computers.

If you would rather yourself buy the computer parts or peripherals that we need to complete workstations for shipment, you can do that too. On the left side of this page, we update a list of those items currently needed. The list also contains links to websites where you may buy those hardware items. These are the websites from which the Help Kenya Project orders. We are therefore confident that they are the among the cheapest places to buy the exact items we need.

Together we can and will bring change.
