In 2001, Jude Ndambuki founded the Help Kenya Project with the bold mission of eliminating extreme poverty in Kenya.
He began working with partners to develop sustainable economic plans for better living standards.
This meant not simply giving handouts, but teaching children skills that they can use to find better jobs in the global marketplace.
The Help Kenya Project also works to conserve the environment by asking that all recipient schools plant a number of trees for every donation received.
Deforestation is a major problem in Kenya; trees help with soil retention and provide shade for the students.
Perhaps more importantly, children who plant the seeds begin to appreciate what it is to give back to your community.
It wasn't long before the project began to grow. Donations came in from American individuals, companies, libraries, and schools.
As of July 2007, The Help Kenya Project has shipped over 1000 computers, over 15,000 books, and approximately 20 pieces of medical equipment.
In response, beneficiaries have planted over 50,000 trees.
We are continuing to prepare future shipments, which go out yearly in the summer.
Jude Ndambuki follows the yearly shipments to Kenya, where he visits schools to see the computers in use and solve any problems.
